Dentistry has always been and still mostly remains a surgical discipline. Dentists spend a large portion of the day doing surgery, removing diseased tissue whether it be decay, inflammation or infection. Dentistry has come a long way and is very effective at treating the symptoms of oral diseases but has not been successful in the prevention end of things. Dental caries and periodontal disease are two of the most common diseases in humans.

A recent trend in dentistry is the growing field of Minimally Invasive Dentistry (MID) which started out as a movement to treat oral diseases in the most conservative and least invasive way possible. Over the years the discipline of MID has evolved towards preventing and eliminating oral disease, which of course results in no treatment at all, the ultimate in minimally invasiveness.

We have embraced the MID concept and are committed to helping our patients eliminate their dental diseases which in turn can prevent other non-related diseases. I will be addressing specific ways in which to reverse or prevent dental disease and what we can do to help you in future blogs.
